Getting the Right Bike & Route
We are currently in discussion with a fantastic small bicycle shop operator regarding the sponsorship of touring bikes. The great momentum, that started months ago, is continuing to gather steam as we get in to the business end of organising the EuRide08 tour. Despite all three of us being in different locations - London, Paris and the other “world city”, Brisbane - we have been able to hold regular discussions about the distance and route of the proposed journey.
Â
EuRide08 will start in Lisbon, Portugal and travel to Trieste, Italy during the months of November and December 2008. Based on Google maps our journey will traverse approximately 3470 Kms, that’s just over 8.5% of the circumference of the earth! Maybe that means this is ride number 1 of 11, well, for two of us. Simon Martin has previously riden from Los Angeles to Florida and Beijing to Tibet! He rode through the Himalayas with his brother reaching everest base camp, so this ride will be a stroll in the park.
Â
The highest point on this tour is expected to be near Serrat Pinos in Andorra of approximately 2400m. The snow line in the Pyrenees during November and December is approximately 1600m and the average temperature will be below zero. Which ever way you look at it, it’s going to be tough work.
Â
Dates are not exact given the distance we will negotiate over the tour, but we estimate to be in Milan for Christmas Day and Venice for New Years Eve.
